After a blog entry, pinging it to get the word out to the world that you have spoken came be a bit time consuming. The free ping tool that I use is PingGoat at http://pingoat.com/
Enter your blog's name, URL and an optional RSS feed and ping all the major players all at once. It's a great page and you should definitely consider bookmarking it.
